Charisse Thomas lived with a rare and radiant kind of love. She made space—for questions, for laughter, for vulnerability, for truth. In her presence, people felt seen and accepted, just as they were. Even in the midst of her own struggles, Charisse showed up with fierce care and unwavering attention.

In her honor, Gan Teva Outdoor Preschool is proud to offer The Charisse Thomas “Make Space” Scholarship, supporting children whose families are experiencing economic distress. This fund reflects Charisse’s legacy of inclusion, empathy, and joyful connection—values at the heart of our school community.

🌿 About the Scholarship

This scholarship provides tuition assistance for families facing financial hardship, allowing their children to access the wonder, safety, and discovery of outdoor, play-based learning at Gan Teva. Scholarship recipients are selected based on need and awarded on a rolling, as-needed basis.

🌿 Eligibility

Families enrolled at Gan Teva who are navigating significant financial challenges, including but not limited to:

Job loss or income reduction
Unexpected medical or caregiving expenses
Transition periods (e.g., housing insecurity, family changes)
Situations not covered by public assistance, but creating financial strain

Families may request support confidentially by speaking with the Director. There is no formal application process; decisions are made with care and compassion.

🌿 Award Structure

Scholarship amounts are flexible and based on current need and available funds.
Awards are given once per family per academic year, as funds are available.
The scholarship is funded by donations from community members, local businesses, and the broader Gan Teva network.
